Where To Eat on a Calgary Foodie Weekend

Aug 1, 2018

Calgary is pretty well-known compared to some of these Canadian cities we blogged about here, mostly because it is home to the annual ‘Calgary Stampede‘ and it’s the gateway city to fly into on your visit to the beautiful Canadian Rockies! For us, it was go-to city for a quick getaway when we lived near Edmonton, only a few hours drive away. We visited so often (here and here), it’s no wonder we ended up moving here.

Checking into Hotel Arts:

We got really lucky with this hotel! The location, service and facilities made us extremely happy that we booked this spot. On our previous visits, we’ve stayed at the Fairmont Palliser and the Hilton Garden — both were lovely — but I think Hotel Arts had the best location for this particular foodie itinerary. Their service was top notch too — the hotel regularly texts to check in and see whether they can do anything further for their guests and I love this! The Beekman in New York had a similar text messaging system and I sort of love the idea of being able to send a quick text to the hotel.

Where To Eat in Calgary?

We LOVE food. Seriously though. We’ve been to Calgary three times, and all we did was eat. So you could say we’re pretty passionate about this blog topic!

Dinner at Two Penny Chinese:

Literally, on the doorstep of our hotel was Two Penny Chinese, our dinner spot for the first night. We’ve been back several times since this first visit and it’s still one of our favourite restuarants to recommend to friends. We’d recommended the Salt and Pepper Squid.

Saturday Brunch at Deane House:

Our favourite find of our foodie weekend in Calgary was this cute little spot at the start of Inglewood. Deane House is the perfect weekend brunch spot (see menu here), especially if you get a spot on their enclosed veranda or outside patio in the Summer. Besides the food being delicious, the staff were ever-so-charming, pointing me off to all the best shopping spots along Inglewood’s Main Road.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting a night to head back for their dinner, but they are currently closed for renovations until January 2020.

Saturday Exploring Inglewood:

Don’t miss this cute suburb, Inglewood! You can find all the shops listed here and here. But our favourites are: the very Instagrammable Plant Shop; and the stunning ladies store, Adorn Boutique where I found a beautiful lace jumpsuit and the white polka dot dress in the Instagram photo below.

Dinner at Ten Foot Henry:

Consistently ranked in the Tripadvisor’s Top 10 restaurants in Calgary, Ten Foot Henry is probably already on your radar if you’ve managed to do any research about where to eat in the city. The restaurant’s vegetable-forward cuisine had my meat-eating husband concerned that he’d be leaving hungry, but instead, I had to fight him for the last bite of broccollini. The family style dining is perfect for sharing and allows you to try several dishes.

Open everyday 11am – 11pm, 1209 1 St. S.W., 403-475-5537, tenfoothenry.com

Quick Sunday Breakfast at Our Daily Brett:

We grabbed a quick bite at Our Daily Brett, before we headed back to Edmonton. If you’re gluten-free, you’ll find it particularly hard to say no to all their GF baked goods and their healthy ready-made-meals!

We will be back in the YYC (Calgary area) this weekend! Our plan is to do more hiking than our usual eating, but let’s see if we can resist these foodie spots! If you have any other recommendations, comment below so we can check them out!
