The Sunday Diary: 33 Weeks Pregnant + Christmas Gift Shopping

Our Sunday Diaries have really taken a bit of a hiatus, but they’re back. No really, they’re back (even if technically late on a Monday).

1 – Recapping this Crazy Year

As we near the end of the year, I’ve also started to reflect on 2020. It’s actually been a good year despite a global pandemic changing up how we do things. I’ve been able to ‘accomplish’ something and move one step closer to what I’d really like to do: help other South Africans, like us, move to Canada. That said, I acknowledged all the ways that I didn’t accomplish things that I had hoped to do this year in an upcoming post. Keep a look out, it’s a goodie.

2 – Nesting, Maybe?

I started organizing the baby clothes and figured that rolling up her onesies into individual dividers might be the easiest. I ordered this 2-pack drawer organizer online from Bed Bath & Beyond and it works perfectly. It’s also way easier to see what she has.

To be honest, I’ve been hesitant to buy too many clothes or the ‘wrong type’ of clothes for her because I know that this could be an area where first-time moms tend to go overboard. Besides the few that were given as gifts, I stocked up on 0-3 month zipper onesies from Old Navy and these two-packs while they were on sale.

Trust me, it’s been so hard not to buy all the cute things so I’ll just share what is in my shopping cart here, that I haven’t pulled the trigger on yet.

3 – 33 Weeks Pregnancy Thoughts

I’ve been better about sharing about this pregnancy over on my personal IG account but I thought I would start sharing the last few weekly recaps over here.

It was a bit more of a ‘moany‘ update compared to previous weeks. I’m feeling the effects of this growing belly and I’m sure in the next month, I’ll be more than excited for her to arrive earthside and make her exit from my belly. Besides a bit of back pain, a slight dropped arch in my foot, food aversions are back (FUN) and I’m surviving mostly on jam toast and apples. Oh, and chocolate.

4 – Last Minute Gift Shopping, Guilty as Charged.

I am totally guilty of leaving gift-shopping till the last-minute so I had to brave the shopping mall, instead of my usual go-to during this covid-period: online shopping. After 10,000 steps, I found a few stocking stuffers that I think most people would love (I’ll share them soon). Most stores are allowing curb-side pick-up at the moment to ensure that you receive all gifts before Christmas, so for all those other last-minute shoppers (looking at all those dads), you can still grab some gifts!

5 – A Weekend Outing + Exploring a Calgary Neighbourhood

We’ve been pretty isolated for the past month with covid cases rising in Alberta and we’ve gone hard on obeying all the restrictions put in place. One way we get out of the house and still support local is by grabbing takeaway coffees (and treats) from our favourite cafes and then going on walks around neighbourhoods we haven’t explored.

This weekend, we went to Our Daily Brett, which we hadn’t visited since they moved premises. They have incredible gluten-free baked goods and this pregnant lady had a craving for banana bread. We also grabbed some of their pre-made meals (like their soups), which we’re definitely going to stock up on for when Baby G arrives.

Behind ODB is a neighbourhood called Altadore, and it’s one of the cutest inner-city residential areas of Calgary. Craig fell in love and already wants to move there (this is such a common occurrence that it’s a drinking-game now). We’re going to try share some more of the residential areas in Calgary as we explore more.

6 – Over on Instagram…

I attempted a “Day in the Life” over on Instagram, documenting my day out shopping and all the other things I did. I thought it might be helpful for some insight into life in Calgary. It went pretty well, so I think I’ll try incorporate them once a week or month. Should be fun to see how different life is with a newborn!

7 – Things I’m Googling…

Pretty sure Google is aware of Baby G’s looming arrival considering these are the things I am currently googling:

  • How to save money on diapers
  • What are the breastfeeding essentials
  • How can I organize baby bottles
  • How should I store extra breastmilk

All of these topics will likely pop up in blog posts, so if you’re interested, follow along on Instagram and I’ll update when they are live.

See you next week! L x
