Summer is upon us, and what better way to escape your daily grind than embarking on a fantastic road trip adventure? The great thing about a road trip, is that you can bring your pets on vacation too, which can be important for you to share these magical moments. Of course, if you are travelling with pets you will want to ensure there are plenty of stop offs along the way so that your pet doesn’t get too hot, agitated, or bored on a long journey. The other thing to consider is equipping your car for a road trip for instance, you’ll likely need a roof rack to make the most of your rugged expeditions. You can click here for a bit more about the offerings available to combine practicality and design – with the tech available these days there’s no reason that an intrepid adventure should be coupled with discomfort!
#1: IRELAND’S WILD ATLANTIC WAY
This is the longest coastal route in the world, which runs up 2,500km of the Western Coast of Ireland and needs, ideally, about 3 weeks to do it properly — it should definitely not be done in a hurry! This is a very natural and beautiful landscape with plenty of things to see and do in a relatively short distance combined with the friendliness and hospitality of the Irish. If you’re doing it with kids, the Wild Atlantic Passport, launched in 2016, is a fun little gimmick that they can use to keep track along the way, collecting stamps at each of the post offices. You can start off in Dublin or Cork
#2: ECUADOR: QUITO TO GUAYAQUIL
In Ecuador, you’ll discover roads surrounded by snow capped mountains, active volcanoes, and local villages filled with some of the warmest people you’ll ever meet.
#3: PORTO TO LISBON
In Portugal, the coastal route from Porto to Lisbon is breathtakingly beautiful; as is the route from Lisbon to Albufeira which you can combine if you have a lot of time… this route is perfect for surfers due to its rugged coastline and foodies, as the food is exceptionally delicious. This is the road trip for those that appreciate a slower pace of life; spending the evening sipping good (and very cheap) wine whilst listening to live acoustic music in a local bar, then at night, falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
#4: FLORIDA KEYS
The Florida Keys are a great destination to head to during summer as there’s a feeling in the air of laid back party vibes. It’s highly recommended if you’re in an RV, as accommodation on the islands can be pricey. It also means you are free to get out of the hustle and bustle of places such as Duval Street in Key West and dip your toes into the lively party scene but then retreat to a place of beauty and tranquility in your RV. The US 1 from Miami to Key West is just a 150 mile drive, which in the most part, is surrounded by ocean connecting a number of small islands.
#5: THE ROCKIES, BANFF & JASPER, CANADA
We’ve road-tripped the Rockies often (here when we went to Jasper, here when we went to Banff) and we even blogged about some pretty awesome bloggers travelling through our neck of the woods too (here). The Icefields Parkway, the Highway that connects the two Mountain Towns, has been called the most scenic drive in the world. It has jaw-dropping scenery of over 100 ancient glaciers, waterfalls cascading from dramatic rock spires and turquoise lakes set in sweeping valleys.
