I absolutely love alfresco dinners, outside in the fresh air taking in nature while eating an equally freshly prepared dinner. So you can imagine how I love to take advantage of Summer barbecuing on the grill at home every chance we get. But if you’re missing gourmet food element from your backyard barbecuing or just the social experience of eating out, Edmonton’s got you covered this Summer. With Farmstyle Dinners on offer from some of the top restaurants, plus backyard barbecues from local popular cafes, you’ll probably have every week covered for the whole of Summer.

#1: RNG RD’s Farmstyle Dinners

RNG RD Farm Dinners Edmonton

From the RNGRD.ca website.

The Farm Dinner series is all about working in partnership with their local farm suppliers: Prairie Gardens, Riverbend Gardens, and Nature’s Green Acres. The Dinner Series introduces the guests to the farms where their produce is grown and to the farmers producing it. Each dinner consists of refreshments, a farm tour, and a dinner paired with Canadian wines. Find tickets at the links below, (but don’t wait too long as they usually sell fast!).

Special Dietary Needs? Vegetarian, Gluten Free or Special Dietary Needs Meals – they can accommodate you! They just require notification in advance.

Dates: on Sundays at different locations —

Price: $150 + GST. You can find more details and a sample menu here. These dinners are a go – rain or shine.

Here’s a great review by Let’s Om Nom on her visit to a farm dinner in 2014. You can get a sneak preview of what you’re in for at one of these dinners.

#2: Chartier’s Farmstyle Dinners

Open fire grill getting set up for our Farm dinners this week!!!!

A post shared by Chartier (@dinechartier) on

This dinner will be held at the Great West Farms homestead and will feature the culinary stylings of Chartier chefs Steve Brochu and Calvin Teufeld. The menu is set to include food cooked on an open flame (evidently by their latest Instagram Post) as well as freshly baked bread in an on-site brick oven. But do save room for the gourmet S’more Bar after dinner, which will be held fireside under the stars (weather permitting). The family style dinner service will also be paired with cocktails made with artisanal spirits from Righand Distillery out of Nisku, Alberta. Of course, the dinner will also include a tour of the Schneider farmstead.

Dates: 14th & 15th of June 2017 at 6pm. Tickets still remaining here Venue: Great West Farms, 50518 Range Road 252, Leduc County, AB. Price: $150 + GST (includes appetizers, a three-course meal and a cocktail pairings with each course). Website | Facebook | Twitter

#3: Brad Smoliak’s Dinners at Elk Island National Park

According to the website, the menu will be inspired by the early settlers that lived in the area and the Park itself. That means it is likely that bison will make an appearance on on your dinner plate sometime throughout the night. The Lakeside Family-Style Dinner is paired with local craft beers and lovely wines. Dates: June 24, July 8, July 29, August 12, August 26 starting at 6:30pm. Price: $150+ GST, and includes admission to the Park (free to everyone this year). Register your spot today by emailing info@kitchenbybrad.ca or calling 780-757-7704.  You can find more details here. Follow Brad Smoliak on Twitter | InstagramFacebook

I can only assume that the above mysterious post on their Instagram, has something to do with Shady Lane’s new venture: Farm-Table Dinners. Shady Lane Estate Inc is a family-owned farm and winery near my side of the world, Barrhead. The primary focus of their farm is the production of quality fruit for fresh consumption or in their delicious wines. From their fresh fruit varieties they make wine from the strawberries, raspberries and saskatoons. If you head to the 104th Street Market in Downtown Edmonton (which we blogged about this week here) you can even taste their wine! This Wine Estate is hosting two separate Farm-Table Dinners, one 3-course dinner and one 8-course dinner, both including live music. Both Dinners are paired with wine and beer. Find the details here.

Dates: July 15th (3-course) & August 19th (8-course) from 5pm – 11pm.

Price: July 15th = $60 and August 19th = $110

Venue: Shady Lane Estate, 58029 Range Rd 44, Barrhead County No. 11, AB T7N 1N4 (An hour north of Edmonton).
