If you didn’t know, May 10th is Mother’s Day and it’s approaching fast. Since we can’t spend quality time with our moms this year, here are a few local gift ideas to make her smile, even if you can’t be together in person. Most of these small businesses are based out of Calgary and Edmonton to support local as much as possible. Let’s make Mother’s Day 2020 one for the books!
While you’re at it, check out our Edmonton City Guide! Looking for Edmonton’s most Instagrammable Spots? This guide is what you need! For a Mother’s Day out, you could visit one of the spots as a Mother’s Day activity (while social distancing, of course).
Our go-to, because Flowers make everything better
Amborella Florals delivers gorgeous flowers daily in the Calgary area. You can order online here. You can even purchase floral subscriptions for bi-weekly or monthly delivery of seasonal flowers to your mom and brighten up the while we all stay home.
Here’s a list of other Calgary stores that will send you flowers or plants.
Pictured: At the Abbotsford Bloom Tulip Festival last year. Since they’re closed this year, you can order some bulbs online out of 25 varieties to plant at home. They ship across Canada and make for a perfect gift for the mom who loves to garden!

Jewelry that makes us feel special
For the minimalist, Elsie Grey Jewelry based out of Edmonton has gorgeous classic, fine jewelry for everyday wear. You can shop them here (currently 15% off!!).
For the mom who loves whimsical, romantic jewelry, Haiku Lane is your local go-to. All their pieces are inspired by bohemian & vintage designs and are super dreamy.
For the mom who loves colour, these (pictured on the left) from Good Morning Company are adorable. They’re small batch, handmade, and unique. Shop them all here.
Pamper Mom with an at-home spa experience
Thoughtfully crafted and ethically handmade, Skwiik Skincare Co. has been creating luxurious skin, bath, and body products in Calgary since 2017. Glitter bath bombs, boba tea bath salts and body polish are just some of the luxurious skin, bath, and body products you can find at Skwiik (Pronounced Squeak).
Apt6 is another Calgary-based business that offers a wide range of skincare products including these gem stone bath bombs. Get a set of 3 for $25, and use code FREESHIP for free shipping on an order for over $75.

For something easy… A box full of good stuff!
This box for $99 from Plum Home (based in Edmonton) makes shopping for mom a little easier. In each box you will find a beautifully wrapped custom Mama T-shirt from Plum, a Tiny Zen Memory Mama Necklace and a Jacek chocolate bar.
Or, alternatively, you can purchase a gift card from any of the stores mentioned. It’s a great way to support local and give your mom the option of choosing what she wants herself.
For the Mom working from home
The WFH Uniform: The Erinn Cardigan, over comfy jeans with Poppy Barley heels to dress it up. At least it’s our new work from home uniform when we’ve got a Zoom call in the schedule.
For their home office, you can add these pencils from Prairie Chick Prints that have phrases like “Badass mom” and “Mama needs a drink”, because they really are, and they probably do.
Speaking of drinks: your mom can use this at-home kit from Native Tongues to recreate their amazing margaritas for an afternoon pick me up. One of the many benefits of working from home!

Because Coffee + Plants = Love
We love the modern and functional pottery by kerAMikk, Third Wheel Ceramics (found at Field Study, free shipping in Canada and the US) and From Tree To Sea (pictured on the left).
Add some local seed packets from West Coast Seeds or this macrame plant holder (DIY option here) for an at-home quarantine activity that moms will love. You can also shop some seeds for curb-side pick up from the Plant Shop in Calgary.
If minimalism isn’t your mom’s thing, and she prefers quirky, the bright and cheerful animal themed pottery from Salty Sea Dog Designs are the perfect finds. Shop them here, for $75 with free delivery.
Something to brighten up the quarantine quarters
Some of us are using this quarantine time to update decor around the house (or in our case, finally start furnishing ur home). The first thing we looked for were some prints for the walls and I’m pretty obsessed with these prints from The Hollow Bird Co, Feast Letter Press and our favourite, Tracey Jazmin (she just opened a print shop!).
Another thoughtful print idea is to turn a family photo with your mom into a digital print by Paige Ashley Letters. Use the code MOM20 for 20% off any portrait on her website.
While we’re on the home decor topic, I’m eyeing these handmade, hand-dyed rope baskets from Prairie Knot Co based out of Saskatoon — and I think moms would love them too!

Say it with a card
Most moms say they love a handwritten note or card for Mother’s Day, but if you’re not confident in your creative skills, these greeting cards from the Crafted Shop are printed in Calgary.
My favourite local cards are probably these from the Homework Press (pictured on the left) based out of Edmonton. You can shop them for $7.20 each here, or at these stores. They offer free domestic shipping over $30 CAD and will send the card straight to your loved one with your special message written inside.
Coronavirus-inspired (if that’s your kind of thing)
If your mom is a fan of Dr Hinshaw (like us), then you’ll want to check out these shirts. All funds raised after production costs will be donated to the Women’s Emergency Accommodation Centre and Pregnancy Pathways. You can read about the initiative here.
If she needs a trendy mask, Harper Ridley has some cute prints made from organic fabric. Plain black and white are available from Our Daily Brett.
For a laugh, send some of these postcards or these pencils by Prairie Chick Prints. Or better yet, get her this ‘Talk Moistly To Me’ necklace if she enjoyed the PM’s faux pas.

We hope you find this local gift guide helpful for Mother’s Day! We’d loved to hear if you buy any of these for your mom (or yourself, because we totally would too). So, send us a DM on Instagram! 🙂
