Love your pets so much that you hate the thought of leaving them every time you travel? Yup, us too! But we have good news: if you’re planning to holiday in Canada, you can bring your furry friend with you! Most of the time when we go on holiday the worst thing we have to do is put our pet in kennels for a week while we are away. The good news is that there are places in Canada which welcome dogs and cats with open arms. If you can’t stand the thought of leaving your pet behind this summer, here are the best places to go and the best pet-friendly things to do.
#1: Hiking with Your Furry Friend in Vancouver, BC
Vancouver is an area filled to the brim with dog lovers. It is the ideal place to bring your pet because there are many winding trails, wide open spaces and dog-friendly hotels and pubs like Atrium Inn Vancouver. There are a wealth of activities for you to tire out your dog during your stay and you will never be short of things to do. The stroll we did through Stanley Park and along the Sea Wall would be perfect for your daily morning walk with your dog! Your leashed companion is even welcome at my favourites: Granville Island and the Capilano Suspension Bridge!
#2: Swimming with Your Pup in Ontario
Ontario, as a whole, is a great place to come if you want some dog-friendly holiday ideas, but the Kawartha Lakes area, in particular, is one which you should consider visiting. This area is full of vast lakes for your dogs to swim in, and some great camping sites for you to enjoy if you fancy a few nights under the stars. One of the best properties for dogs in this area is the Woodhaven Country Lodge. They not only accept dogs, but they have no issues with your dog sleeping in your bed with your during your stay!
#3: Pet-friendly Parks & Perks in Winnipeg, MN
Winnipeg is an epicenter of some amazing country parks and outdoor areas where you can walk your dogs in the sunshine. It is a beautiful area which is perfect for anyone who loves walking and it will be the ideal way to keep your dog for and health during hour holiday. You can also treat your dog to a new toy at a local pet store or head into Happy Tail’s Pet Spa for a full day of grooming!
#4: Golfing with Your Best Bud in Airdrie, AB
How’s about a round of golf?! Well you can do it with your leashed pup. Swing for the perfect hole-in-one with your buddy in tow when you stop into Woodside Golf Course, one of the only pet-friendly golf greens in Alberta.
#5: A Pet-friendly Vacation in the Mountains, Whistler, BC
Whistler is host to two dog-friendly events: the DogFest and Woof Weekend at the Westin. A mountain getaway is a great area to come to for a pet-friendly vacation as you will have access to many parks and nature walks which you can take your dogs on. It is a place full of dog people and they are incredibly friendly to any newcomers. There is even some luxury accommodation for your pets to enjoy in the area so it’s a win-win situation! You and your dogs can enjoy a lovely, luxury holiday hand in paw.
#6: City Breaks with Your Posh Pup in Edmonton, AB
The Fairmont MacDonald is super canine-friendly, and they even have a cute canine of their own on the property. I’ve found that most Fairmont Hotels are great with travelling pets and you can double check their policies per hotel here. If you can’t take your pet with you on your trip to this city, you can still get some pet therapy at one of the Cat Cafes!
I will be volunteering at the Cat Festival in Edmonton this weekend hosted by my friend, Linda (A.K.A. @lindork)! One hundred percent of the proceeds goes towards Cat Rescues and the important work that they do in helping our feline friends, so best you get your ticket and come down to join us for a purrr-fect kitty-filled day!
